Bidens! Local Lyme Protocol plant ally
Bidens pilosa. Harvested at one of my favorite sacred spots in Burlington, vt. I had heard of this plant used in Lyme protocols for folks in chronic Lyme situations but had never ventured into delving deeper into what this plant has in store... so here is information from a study by Hindawi, the website is linked below my “bio.” 🍃
Bidens pilosa likely originated from South America and then spread all over the world. The folkloric use of B. pilosa has been recorded in the Americas, Africa, Asia, and Oceania. 🍃
Bidens species are known by such names as Spanish needles, beggar’s ticks, devil’s needles, cobbler’s pegs, broom stick, pitchforks and are sometimes known as xian feng cao (“all bountiful grass”) in China because of their prosperous growth.

All parts of B. pilosa plant, the whole plant, the aerial parts (leaves, flowers, seeds, and stems), and/or the roots, fresh or dried, are used as ingredients in folk medicines. It is frequently prepared as a dry powder, decoction, maceration or tincture.

Bidens can be useful in the treatment of more than 40 disorders such as inflammation, immunological disorders, digestive disorders, infectious diseases, cancers, metabolic syndrome, wounds, and many others. B. pilosa is usually ingested; however, it can also be utilized externally. For instance, fresh B. pilosa is used to treat snake bites and wounds, and in Trinidad and Tobago the aqueous solution of the leaves of B. pilosa is used to bathe babies and children.

B. pilosa extracts and/or compounds have antitumor, antiinflammatory, antidiabetic and antihyperglycemic, antioxidant, immunomodulatory, antimalarial, antibacterial, antifungal, antihypertensive, vasodilatory, and antiulcerative activities. 🍃
